Biography

Alice Orrell joined PNNL in September 2008 as an Energy Analyst in the EP&E group. Her focus is providing renewable energy resource assessments and wind energy project development support for DOD clients. As part of a team that evaluates DOD sites for wind, solar, geothermal, biomass, waste-to-energy, and ocean energy, Alice is responsible for the wind energy and resource assessments and wind project development efforts and supports the solar energy and resource assessments. She has helped to evaluate over 75 DOD sites for wind energy potential and has managed the installation of two meteorological towers on DOD properties.

In addition to her DOD work, Alice participated in a competitively-funded DOE project and provides technical assistance to DOE’s Wind Powering America program. As a Lab-partner on the industry-led DOE-funded "Distributed Wind Policy Comparison Tool" project, Alice developed the pro forma model tool the project team used to quantitatively determine how state policies and incentives impact the cost of energy of distributed wind turbines 100 kW in size and smaller.

Alice is a Professional Engineer in the State of Washington and worked in the power industry prior to joining PNNL, both as an independent consultant in the wind power industry and as an engineer for an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction contractor designing natural gas fueled power plants.
